Black Gold League (BGL) was started with the purpose of dissemination of information on the basic and technical aspects of growing Pepper. BGL has completed three extremely successful years and the ongoing fourth batch has received exceptionally good response. During the past few years, BGL has drawn the attention of young growers and this has positively impacted them to continue in their native occupation of agriculture rather than migrate to cities in search of lucrative jobs. The training sessions with field visits to progressive Pepper growers have convinced a lot of planters about the benefits of Pepper cultivation by adopting best agricultural practices. We encourage growers of all sizes of holdings from small to big to join our training program.
BGL has been educating Pepper growers from Nursery to Harvest and the cross-section of students comprise young planters, professionals, representatives of various pepper related departments, scientists and progressive growers. Each of the students contributes in terms of their knowledge and opinion on best practices. BGL training program is conducted for a period of one year with 9 – 10 sessions. Each session is held once in 5 weeks with training on the end to end procedure of growing pepper. Each batch comprises of trainees from Karnataka and other southern states of India and their representatives ranging from age group of 18 – 75 including women planters and senior citizens.
Pepper growers from across the Pepper growing areas of the world have evinced a keen interest in our training programmes. In view of this and to showcase BGL Indian Pepper, we will be organizing the Global Pepper Conference on the 11th, 12th and 13th of November 2016 in Chikmagalur. We expect Pepper traders and everyone interested in BGL Indian Pepper to attend the conference and experience BGL Indian Pepper which is grown the BGL Way, is Clean and Safe and is marketed with Traceability.
The goal of BGL is to increase India’s Pepper production to over 0.15 million tons and aspire to reach the world’s No. 1 position in terms of highest pepper production.
